A wise friend once told my son, who at the time was very frustrated at not being able to do the same things as his older brother, “This is the only time in your life you will be 8 years old. Right now you must do your best at being 8, and do all the things 8 year olds can do.”
It reminded me of the ways we, as grown ups, sometimes spend so much time regretfully looking back, or pining for the future. Maybe today we can embrace something unique about where we are right now.
