Creative Christmas Day 9 – Styrofoam Ornaments
I know you’ll like the activity for today – it’s simple and uses materials out of the recycle bin, yet comes out looking festive and pretty. Day 9 of the Creative Christmas Countdown is brought to you by Happy Hooligans!
Projects from the Happy Hooligans are creative yet simple. I think that no matter whether you do today’s activity or not, you’ll love browsing around Jackie’s site and seeing all of the delightful ideas she’s shared – very inspiring!
Crafting Tip:
It can be really disappointing to get an activity all ready only to be met with kids saying, “I don’t WANT to do this.” A couple ways to handle this:
Sometimes you can sit down and start doing an activity without asking them to join you – they may get curious and want to join in. I try to choose activities I am at least mildly interested in for this reason.
Secondly, you can push some kids a bit. You just have gauge how far you can take it. My first son ALWAYS resists crafts. I tell him, “Please just sit with us for a few minutes and give it a try, then you can go.” Most of the time he quickly becomes interested and relaxes. Also sometimes he likes a bit more direction before he can relax and do an activity. He may need me to do the first step, see an example or help him plan his work. Sometimes just altering what we’re doing a bit does the trick too – the other day two of the kids made gingerbread man pictures with me; my oldest made a “gingerbread alien” picture.
Happy Crafting! Day 10 will be on Red Ted Art tomorrow. Also, don’t miss the giveaway going on now until December 14th – CWK is giving away a cuddly Rubens Barn Kids Doll and offering 10% off on purchases at Magic Cabin. Check out the doll review and enter the giveaway!

Oooh great tips Alissa! I hear SO many mother say “oh but my son hates crafts”…… and then when said sons are at my house, they DO join in. Admittedly their attention span is lower than my kids’, but they still have a go, and that is what it is all about, right?!
