A foam plate…hmmm, this has interesting possibilities for sensory play…
Uh oh, Leland seems out of sorts this morning, I better give him something interesting to do right away…
Maybe he’d like to stab holes in the letter ‘L’… I’ll draw a leaf too…there, that’s kind of cute…
Sure Mom, I can stab the ‘L’…

Oh, but if we get that paper out of the way I can stab and scratch the foam!

Hey- flipping this over is even better! >stab< >stab< >stab<

This stuff feels neat when you break it! Look what I can do!

My work here is done.

And with his sensory needs filled, he calmly sat down and ate his breakfast.
I love it. So simple, my 3 year old will love stabbing holes in a foam tray. Thanks for sharing this idea.
So adorable. Love the simplicity of this activity. Simple, yet so meaningful…
This is fun, sometimes as an adult I forget that my kids have only been on the earth for such a short amount of time, they really need to experiment with their environment. What a great way to encourage that!
Haha, sometimes a bit of destruction goes a long way towards making you feel better! Great way to channel that energy positively! (Think I might need some foam plates myself tonight!)
that is so my kid.
I love this!! I’ve been working on a series on my blog on purposely destructive educational activities. Some kids need it to be ok to do this! 🙂 Would you mind if I feature your post?
I would have never thought to do that!
Awesome! Don’t you just love it when your child decides to do something totally different than you had planned? Love the idea of stabbing a foam plate.
I’ve just spotted this over at Hands on As we Grow’s fine motor round up. I think your cork and toothpick idea is brilliant! (oh, and who can resist that satisfying snap that comes with breaking up a styrofoam meat tray?!!)
We continue to destroy foam trays every chance we get, I hope you try it and have some fun 🙂
wow – – that’s every craft w/my 4yo grandson! Let’s just get to the end so I can do what I want! He is not a craft person unless it’s good and messy. – – this is a good one tho that I know he’ll love. thanks!
Great idea. I can’t believe that it has never occurred to me that I’m always trying to get them to “create” when of course, what they really want to do is “destroy”. Thanks
Love this idea!! Our kiddo will be excited to do the same thing 🙂 Thank you for sharing this!
