To learn from a mistake ask:
1. What happened?
2. Why do you think it happened?
3. What will you do to change the outcome in the future?
The growth mindset says that mistakes don’t mean we’re failing, they mean we’re learning. To develop a growth mindset about mistakes we can prepare by having these three questions handy. As you ask the questions – to yourself or to your child, keep the answers non-judgmental and non-sarcastic. To be open to learning we need to take a look at the facts and make a new plan for the future.
