I assume this is meant to be cooked and eaten then? or no? Not trying to be a downer about this fun craft but food coloring might actually be a bad thing to be feeding kids. My younger brother acts like a crazy child after eating it, and studies have linked it to ADD like behaviors. I haven’t personally researched the topic (my mom has) but I can imagine hyper active kids is the last thing any parent/teacher wants 🙂 and I do know food coloring is in soo much food so its hard to avoid all together, but its something to look into if its of interest to you.
Thanks for this. Did this today with my kindy class as part of a healthy food day. They loved it. I mixed the food colouring in front of them with gloves in a sensory play trof. The rice quickly absorbs the colour. We gave them measuring spoons, cups jugs and tong to play with. The other activity was painting with spaghetti 🙂
Hey Alissa, Does that get the color on their hands at all? Not that it’s a big concern of mine (my little one that would really enjoy this often walks around with marker on her face and hands, lol) but I am curious.
We started out stirring with a spoon and the rice absorbed the color very
quickly. The kids might have gotten a tiny bit of color on them…but not
much since I don’t recall their hands being colorful.
