Secret Mission – Slow Down
Parenting Secret Mission: Slow. Down.
Case File: Parenting Ideas
Do an ordinary task with your child at your child’s pace. Show peace. Show deliberate and careful. Children imitate both our actions and our moods. let’s give them a chance to feel unhurried.
Sure, you know how to pour in ingredients and stir, you know how to set the table, fold laundry or feed the dog. In fact, you’d probably just like to get the chores done, who wants to move slower?!
However, for our children this is still new. They may wish to linger a while over a task that seems boring to you. Not only that, by constantly going fast, fast, fast, what message are we sending? Our kids see the whole picture – our tense bodies, the speedy efficient moves – even when we are not upset, sometimes we’re moving so quickly that we wind up sending the message, “I’m in a rush!!” without meaning to.
We want to teach our kids to take their time and do things well, to breathe and enjoy the little things in life, right? That can start with doing a boring ol’ chore slowly and peacefully – you may find you like the peacefulness as well.
Toddlers are champions at this half speed. These are 10 of my favorite chores to include toddlers in.
Have fun! slowly! 😉
