We don’t get to choose what kids remember most.
Our job is to provide many opportunities for them to make memories that will sustain them later.
Some ways we can provide space to make memories include:
- Making downtime part of your family routine. Downtime is important for everyone. Keeping your schedule less full allows time for spontaneous events that build connection.
- Taking time to listen and remember together – help them make sense of events.
- Making “I Love You Rituals” part of every day life. These can be simple things like having a special way you say goodbye, family sayings that you repeat, or little traditions about how you celebrate someone’s birthday.
